While in Cambodia, my colleague and I broke away from the city to explore the floating villages of Kompong Phluk.  Traveling down the narrow channels, I was amazed and humbled by the standard of living.  Despite the apparent level of poverty, the people of this town were very welcoming, and the kids had nothing but big smiles on their faces.  Like being lost in a forest of trees growing out of water rather than the soil, I was mixed up in my emotions.  My interpretation of life’s meaning transformed, and I had realized that happiness is choice defined by our perspective rather than the acquisition of excess material objects and public approval; “The American Dream.”
